The Fifth Question at the Passover Seder

5th_question_old_photo2_hi_res

“Jews have a special relationship to books, and the Haggadah has been translated more widely, and reprinted more often, than any other Jewish book. It is not a work of history or philosophy, not a prayer book, user’s manual, timeline, poem or palimpsest —and yet it is all these things.”
—Jonathan Safran Foer
Why is this seder different from all others? On this night, we ask how your JCC, camp or your military service has made a difference for you.

This Passover, take a moment to reflect with the friends and family around your seder table about how the JCC has made a difference in your life. Share the stories that have been told at your seder, new and old, on social media with #JCC100. Here are some questions to ask and answer:

Did your parents, grandparents or other relatives ever serve in the military: WWII/Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc.
Did they ever meet a Jewish chaplain, get a siddur (prayer book), Haggadah, or other support from JWB Jewish Chaplains Council? What ship/base were they on? Do they have a photo? How did the experience affect them?

What is your family’s JCC story?
Who in your family first participated at a JCC, YM-YWHA or related camp? How did this come about? When/why did they join? Are they still connected to people they met there? How did the JCC/camp make a difference for them? Why is the J/camp important? Do they have old photos, etc.
