World War II ended and JWB turned its thoughts—and actions—to home. In 1949, JWB joined the Veterans Administration Voluntary Service Program, providing volunteers for those who have served our country. It was a way of connecting JCCs directly to JWB’s core mission of serving Jews who serve. JWB Jewish Chaplains Council continued to safeguard the rights, fulfill the spiritual needs, combat the loneliness and isolation and honor the service of Jews in the United States armed forces. We endorse Jewish chaplains to the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs, augmenting their resources and advocating on matters of policy.
